Last night on Egyptian TV station Dream the Muslim Brotherhood said the military council SCAF would be held accountable once the new parliament is formed. They also said the parliament would control the military budget and this is very significant as it displays a more aggressive stance by the MB who are set to will easily all elections this year.
The MB met with US representatives in Cairo last month and this may be a signal a new direction in the future. The pending anniversary on the 25th Jan is a pressure point and the MB could be trying to appear in opposition to SCAF as the pressure mounts in Egypt. However today I made a visit to side street bar near Tahrir called The Stella and politics did appear to be on the mind of the cliental this afternoon. On arrival inside the dark smoky interior a rather merry woman came over to me and my companion. As she swayed she told me ” I meet you before, day before yesterday” to which I replied “Really 2 days ago, where?”. She straightened herself and fixed her gaze ” as a horse, a white horse!”. Things got pretty surreal after that and we had a very enjoyable afternoon beer.
